Center For The Study & Dissemination Of Myths & Folktales
Saturday, April 13 at 6:00 p.m, Antonis Zoulos Theater, Ioulida, Kea

The program “Listen to the story…” is implemented by the Center for the Study & Dissemination of Myths & Folktales and includes the production of 20 podcast stories, featuring original musical compositions, inspired by the oral tradition and mythology of Kea. These stories will be available for anyone to listen to on their mobile phone or any other electronic device, such as a tablet, laptop, etc., by scanning a QR code that will direct them to the story’s link. The QR codes will be displayed on signs positioned in prominent locations across various public places. Oral tradition and the beautiful natural landscapes are interconnected and blend harmoniously, with each side accentuating the other. Natural landmarks and local architecture converge with the treasures of oral tradition, myths, and fairy tales of the island, brought to life through the art of storytelling, forming a timeline that spans from ancient times to the present day.

“Recording traditional instrument players of Κea to safeguard, preserve and promote traditional music as intangible cultural heritage”
Municipal Public Benefit Organization of Kea
Sunday April 14, 11:00 a.m., Cultural Center “Stylianos Restis” in Corresia, Kea

The program “Recording traditional instrument players of Κea to safeguard, preserve and promote traditional music as intangible cultural heritage” was implemented by the Municipal Public Benefit Organization of Kea and includes ten standalone short documentaries featuring the remaining elderly instrument players of the island as well as the children and/or grandchildren of the most important traditional musicians of Kea. The documentaries are available to the public here and at the YouTube Channel KeaGreece.

The recordings of the 10 documentaries were made in characteristic landmarks of Kea such as the Holy Monastery of Kastriani, Saint Simeon, but also in natural environments such as the Fountain of Benjamin, to simultaneously highlight the sonic diversity and biodiversity of the environment. These short documentaries showcase their virtuoso playing, include brief personal interviews and explore their interpretation of specific songs, along with sharing old stories from celebrations and traditional festivals.

The ten documentaries have been articulated into a single documentary, and the recordings of the soundscapes may be published at the next conference of “Acoustic Ecology”.
