Presentation of the program “The weavers and their memories” in Syros

We invite you to the presentation of the Cycladic Identity Initiative program of the Museum of Cycladic Art, titled “The weavers and their memories.”

The program was implemented by Hermoupolis Heritage and aimed to highlight the history of the women who worked in the textile industry of Syros, connecting it with the island’s collective memory and identity. The program will be presented to the residents of Syros on Sunday, 31 August 2025, at 10:30, in a event open to the public that will take place at the Hermoupolis Textile Museum.

The presentation on the 31st of August will be a celebration of history, tradition, and the art of weaving in the heart of the Cyclades, where guests will have the opportunity to explore archival materials and oral testimonies from the island’s former textile workers.

Speakers at the event will include Sandra Marinopoulou, President and CEO of the Museum of Cycladic Art, and Ioannis Voutsinos, Deputy Mayor of Tourism in Syros.

This will be followed by a talk from Dimitris Stavrakopoulos, Founder of the Hermoupolis Textile Museum, who drawing on archival material, will shed light on the overlooked aspects of the lives and labour of the women behind the looms. A moving moment will follow, with a former worker sharing her personal testimony.

The event will also feature the screening of a video created from the testimonies collected from 10 former workers of the Zisimatos factory (now the Hermoupolis Textile Museum). The event will conclude with an open discussion, where residents and visitors will share personal memories and reflections.

Participation in the event is free of charge. However, due to limited seating, those interested are requested to secure their attendance in advance by completing the form at the following link:
