The Cycladic Identity Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art wins the Audience Choice Award of the Art Explora 2024
The Cycladic Identity Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art won the Audience Choice Award of the Art Explora 2024 – Académie des Beaux-Arts European Award With the project: “Tell Me Your Story: A Digital Repository of Cycladic Heritage”.
Our project was shortlisted as one of the top five in its category out of 232 applications. This recognition is significant for both the Cycladic Identity and the Museum of Cycladic Art.
More than 1400 people voted for our project, “Tell Me Your Story: A Digital Repository of Cycladic Heritage”, which aims to create a digital repository to preserve and highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Cycladic islands, specifically Anafi, Sikinos, and Kea. These islands, deeply rooted in traditional practices and folklore, face threats from overtourism and climate change, which undermine their unique identity.
The project will gather oral histories through intergenerational interviews and will will establish a digital repository focusing on material culture, biodiversity, and intangible traditions. This repository will feature video interviews with elderly community members capturing their stories to safeguardthe Cycladic cultural identity for future generations. Additionally, the project fostersintergenerational dialogue by involving the youth in the storytelling process.
We will receive the award of 10.000€ to implement the first part of this project.
The award ceremony took place in Paris under the iconic dome of the Institut de France on December 11th, where we also participated in workshops, presented our project, and networked with other finalists.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of you, as we believe many of you supported us with your votes.
