The program “Development of a website for hosting, maintaining, and promoting the Oral History Archive of Donoussa” has been completed

The Cycladic Identity Initiative program of the Museum of Cycladic Art, titled “Development of a website for hosting, maintaining, and promoting the Oral History Archive of Donoussa” was completed and implemented by the POSEIDON Cultural and Environmental Association of Donoussa, with the presentation of the Historical Archive of Donoussa website to the island’s residents.

This program is dedicated to preserving and promoting the island’s oral history by creating an accessible online space for the stories, voices, and memories that define the island’s unique identity.

As part of the program presentation, we had the opportunity to visit the Secondary School of Donousa, which includes Lyceum classes, engaging directly with students and educators.  During the visit, we introduced the initiative’s goals and vision, emphasizing our commitment to protecting, celebrating, and revitalizing the cultural heritage of the Cycladic islands. We encouraged students to reflect on everyday life in the Cyclades and to explore their personal connections to local traditions and culture. We also presented the Historical Archive of Donousa website, which was received with great enthusiasm by the students.

The website includes recorded narratives along with transcribed text and photographs of the individuals and the island, all sorted according to section, category, subcategories, and keywords. There is also a genealogical tree tracing the history of Donoussa, a marked map with the landmarks of the island, as well as characteristic words from the local Donousian dialect.

The presentation of the program to the local community was met with enthusiasm and joy, reflecting the community’s deep connection to its heritage and its commitment to preserving it through modern technology.
